5/6/22 Friday
Park rangers are back for the weekly Venice boardwalk homeless clean up AKA sweep. LAPD and sanitation just did it at 2 am, but they don't clean, just harass people in the middle of the night. Nothing is really cleaned during the day either, they just sprayed chemicals everywhere pretending to power wash. They do this so it's hard for people to be there and breathe in the toxicity. They are legally required to wear protective masks, but make everyone on the beach breathe it.
Most people from the beach have been pushed to the Library park or near Hampton Ave. The city still refuses to house people and most people there have been through the hotel shelter programs multiple times with no permanent solution. There's a confrontation with a homeless guy, saying he wants help, and St Joseph's homeless outreach, where they refuse to speak to him and call the park rangers to help. He's a local character, but they still refuse everyone the same. St Joseph's takes as much funding, or more, than the city spends on actual shelter and proof just came out they spent over $650k on private security to harass homeless people at night, just this past year in Venice alone. The city spends homelessness funding for private security, fake cleanings, pointless outreach and anything else, rather than mental health care or housing because nobody in this town will say anything about it. The majority of people in their misunderstanding of what's going on, vote to continue this, thinking it's going to chase the problems away. LA has been doing this for decades and the only thing that's changed is they get more money while more people die. On average 5 homeless people die per day in Los Angeles, a man just overdosed at the bathroom on brooks and they boardwalk yesterday.
The issue of Homelessness, mentally illness without care and addiction overtaking lives, will never go away as long as this waste continues. Unfortunately every politician running for office this upcoming election has a plan to make it worse, LAPD continues to waste $8 million dollars a day complaining, sanitation is over $1 million now for doing nothing and the city isn't stopping finding more ways to waste the only chance at fixing this.
